Community Information

Truly exquisite waterfront mansion conversion on a sliver of land extending out into the Atlantic ocean. The home is on a private, gated 232 acres which sits in prime waterfront between Boston and New York City. Mansion hosts several unique homes. Our 1700 sq. foot home is the former primary owner's quarters, best location for sun and views, all ground level for easy, no climb access. Magnificent 14 foot high ceilings in every room with both sun-up and sun set views from it's additional 1,600 sq. feet of wrap around private, hand laid bluestone terrace. Rich oriental carpets blanket the rich, beautiful hardwood floors. The large, airy master bedroom overlooks the ocean as does the tri-sided, French doored, private, valuted ceiling'd solarium. Home is filled with elegant furniture, original oil paintings and a vast collection of classic books. Only 30 minutes to Cape Cod. Travel 20. min. by air and/or under 1 hr. by hydrofoil to Martha's Vineyeard (island) which you can see from the terrace. We have a private professional grade golf course just outside our door, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. that runs along the water's edge, owned and used by only a handful of people and which is impeccably maintained. (Greens fees are included in your stay.) Never a wait to play, never a rush to finish. Tennis, pool, sea kayaking, biking, visiting fishing villages and vineyards is how you spend time in this resort like, upscale environment. Day trip easily to Boston for an outdoor concert, visit galleries or catch a ball game, -- or dip down to New York to catch a few Broadway shows! Or too, it's so beautiful here, you might just sit and watch the sailboats go buy from the terrace and never leave "home!" (Yes, I have an abundance of photos in our posting, but it's a very photogenic place. Enjoy!)

The Neighborhood
This is a rare New England gem of high style luxury living set among quaint fishing villages and conveniently located between Boston and New York City on the eastern seaboard of the US. The mansion is the crown jewel inside a very exclusive gated, private community. Built by the son of the wealthiest woman in the world (in her time, the 1920's), many books have been written about the history inside these foot thick granite walls which you can read all about in the books on the mantleplace. Our unit is the former primary, formal living quarters of the original owner and therefore hosts the best dual water views that the mansion offers. European artisans were flown in to hand craft the enormous 6 foot tall, marble and wood fireplace still beautifully preserved in our living room. (see photo.) Full time gardeners tend to the flower gardens which line the exclusive use terrace's moat. Six acres of lush grass are all that stands between your deck chairs and the water's edge. (Romance is involuntary!) Being here is like experiencing life in a fine castle in Europe! Please enjoy my photos and don't forget your own camera!

Other Information
If you are looking to visit Boston and New York in your USA visit, this is a GREAT location to utilize as your base of travel. Boston, loaded with history, art, music and museums is a 90 minute, easy drive. New York City is merely three hours away by car. Passenger trains are also available to travel to both. There are high speed ferries from the nearby port town of New Bedford, MA (only a 20 min. drive away) with many daily runs to Martha's Vineyard, (island)and/or Nantucket,(island). The famous beach and coastal villages of Cape Cod, MA are only 30 scenic minutes away by car as well. The easiest international and/or domestic airport is only a 45 minute drive to Providence, Rhode Island,(easier access than Boston's Logan airport.) Providence, home of Brown University, is a surprisingly interesting, booming college and cultural city with dramatic fire-river-water events, restaurants and art galleries. Another regional highlight nearby is Newport, Rhode Island where original, historic mansions like our own are open for public tours rather than privately owned. Then, also day or overnight trips away, there is the famously beautiful coast of Maine,... and the mountains of Vermont,...the health spas in the Berkshires,.. shall I go on? Oh, and don't forget the renowned New England fall folliage in late September and early October. Oh yes, and the national sailboat races in the harbor just off the terrace or the whale watching or the wine tastings at the vineyard around the corner and just down the tree covered, stone fenced country road, and the............(etc., etc., etc...).
