With frontage and driveways on both Oxford and Lafayette
Streets, the Seth Mitchell House, a restored, mint condition,
half-federal colonial is a joy to tour. This professionally
decorated historical home combines modern comforts with antique
ambiance. The first floor features a new kitchen with skylight,
Center- Island, whitewashed cherry cabinets with pewter pulls,
and a breakfast nook opening to a back deck that overlooks
the 20x40 in-ground pool. Off the kitchen is a full bath with
clawfoot tub, a formal dining room with sliders to the back
deck, family room with exposed original beams and built-in
TV cabinet, livingroom with fireplace and a 17 foot long center
hallway with front staircase. The second floor has a foyer
large enough for a study alcove, a master bedroom with gigantic
master bath, including a Jacuzzi tub and separate stall shower,
two ample additional bedrooms, a small den, and a laundry
room.
A staircase also leads to the third floor, presently used
as an attic, but which at one time was used for two additional
bedrooms, both with large closets and separate radiators.
The basement is full with walkout and features 150 amp circuit
breakers and a recent 4-zone gas hot water furnace. The mature
grounds are beautiful and include a 2-car garage with loft
storage and a pool shed. All the floors are wood or tile;
original wainscoting is in place on the walls, and the floor
plan flows nicely augmented by a second staircase from the
kitchen to the second floor. There are partial water views
from the back decks and back windows. This home is waiting
for the purist who appreciates living in a historical district
where most of the homes date back to the Revolutionary War
era and where the sea is only a stone's throw away.
