Fairhaven Village, Updated Antique - Best of Both Worlds

This antique, 3-bedroom, 1-1/2-bath, beautifully preserved home is located in Fairhaven's historic village center. The home was once part of the Delano homestead, built by Warren Delano, great-grandfather of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and was relocated to this 8,467 square foot lot in the 1950s. This 1,970 square foot home is fronted by a stone wall and has off-street parking. It features eleven foot ceilings, a working fireplace, a recently renovated eat-in kitchen, hardwood floors, original windows, a rear deck, lovely landscaping, central air-conditioning, and loads of closet and storage space.

Towards the front of the house, on the first floor, find a large, fireplaced living room with crown moldings. Further back is a large foyer and a dining room, which can also be used as a sitting room or first floor bedroom. Next, find a recently updated, eat-in kitchen with porcelain tile floors, granite countertops, cherry cabinets, and new stainless steel appliances. Also on the first floor is a large half-bath with laundry facilities (could be made into a second full bath).

Upstairs find three good-sized bedrooms and a full-bath that has both a shower and a claw-foot tub. A walk-up attic and a full, walk-out basement provide ample storage space. The home is heated with forced hot water (radiators) and has a gas furnace. It also has a recently installed central air-conditioning system. It is served by town water, town sewer, and town gas.

Sliders from the kitchen lead to a raised, 75 square foot deck that has a retractable awning. The yard is nicely landscaped and feels private. While large enough for entertaining, the yard isn't too big to easily maintain. This unusual home has the feeling of a Back Bay or Beacon Hill townhouse. Its high ceilings, wide hallways, and historic character make it a charming place to live without requiring a lot of maintenance.

This entire home was just recently painted, inside and out. The furnace is recent. The hot water tank is recent. The kitchen was updated and expanded in the past few years. The roof is two years old. The electrical panel, electrical service, security system, appliances, window treatments, and toilets have all been changed in the past 2 years. This home is in move-in condition.

Finally, this home is located on the Fairhaven Center area. It is just a short stroll from the town hall, convenience store, restaurants, the town library, schools, parks, the beach, marinas, fishing piers, the middle school, the high school, a bicycle path, four churches, and much more. The home is also close to shopping, the New Bedford National Whaling Historic Park, about 14 National Historic Districts, and the ports, beaches, and golf courses of South Dartmouth, Westport, Mattapoisett, and Marion. It is only five blocks from the Fairhaven Shipyard, which can accommodate very large vessels.

By car, Fairhaven is one hour south of Boston (and Logan Airport), 30 minutes from the Cape Cod bridges, 30 minutes from Providence and Newport, Rhode Island, 40 minutes from T.F. Green International Airport, one hour from Logan International Airport (Boston). Drive to Manhattan in about three-and-a-half hours or take the train from Providence.
