Isaiah Weston House, circa 1801

In the heart of Fairhaven Village Center, in the historical area called the "twenty-acre purchase", sits the "Isaiah Weston House". The home was built in 1801 by Master-builder Solomon Williams for Reverend Isaiah Weston, then the pastor of Fairhaven's Congregational Church, to be his residence. Later the home became the parsonage of Fairhaven's "Centre Methodist Episcopal Church and Society" from 1884 until 1945.

This Federal Style home has 2334 square feet of living area, including three bedrooms, two full baths, four fireplaces, as well as ample character and period detail. The home is clapboard-sided in front and is shingled on the other three sides. External details include an attractive portico and fanlight, twelve-over-twelve windows, a cornice adorned with attractive garlands and dentils, and decorative quoins.

Enter the home to find a nice-sized foyer with an original, carved banister and staircase leading to the floor above. You will notice that the ceilings and doorframes are quite high for a federal period home. To the right, through French doors, find a fireplaced living room with decorative moldings. To the left of the foyer is a fireplaced den or formal dining room. Both front rooms and the foyer have decorative moldings. The den also has an ornate built-in that was salvaged from the Henry Huttleston Rogers Mansion. Toward the back of the first floor are an updated kitchen and dining/ breakfast room, as well as a first floor bath and laundry area. A back door leads from the kitchen and back stairs to a rear 16' X 20 ' deck. The first floor has oak flooring.

Upstairs find three bedrooms and a large, full bath. Two of the bedrooms also have fireplaces. This level has painted, wide-pine floors. Stairs lead to a third-floor attic. A set of back stairs leads back down to the first floor. The home also has a full basement, central air-conditioning, and off-street parking.

This home is in wonderful condition for its age. The roof is only eight years old. The electric has been updated. It is heated by baseboard and has central air-conditioning. The windows have been replaced, but are wooden and 12-over-12. Town water, town sewer, and town gas serve the property.

This impeccable property is located in Fairhaven's historic village center, just blocks from the town hall, library, bicycle path, post office, eateries and town wharf. Also, within a short stroll of an active marina, a state beach, tennis courts and Buzzards Bay. It is located two blocks from the Fairhaven Harbor, which is one of the most active fishing harbors in the United States. Get fresh scallops and swordfish just blocks from your house.

While Fairhaven's Village Center area is sleepy and quiet with beautiful old buildings (take our tour on this site), it is also very close to convenient shopping centers and to major highways. Fairhaven is 30 minutes from Providence, 30 minutes from Newport, RI, an hour from Boston, and 30 minutes to the Cape Cod bridges. Also, the Fairhaven harbor runs a high speed Ferry to Martha's Vineyard that takes under an hour.

Fairhaven offers the finest in New England living: history, character, boating, community, and beaches. It is a great location from which to take full advantage of what the South Coast has to offer.
