The Captain Snow House, circa 1812, is a beautifully
preserved and updated, 2,954 square foot, Federal period home with Greek revival accents, such as chimneys
on exterior walls and high ceilings. The yellow pine floors and the straight front staircase are
classic Federal features.
Enter through the front door to the formal living room with built-in cabinets and parquet
floor. A handy powder room with shower is on your left. The living room opens to
a fireplaced family room with built-in wall units and access to an office/ library that
is hidden from view. Nearby is a formal dining room with fireplace, period dentils, and
wainscoting. The large kitchen has wood plank floors, a walk-in pantry, a glassed-in sitting area with window seats, center island
with cook-top, double ovens, gorgeous cherry cabinets, study nook, family dining room with large fireplace, and
first floor laundry room with a laundry chute from the Master Bedroom. The kitchen has its
own staircase to the second floor, as well as access to the charming, covered, back porch
and bricked patio.
Upstairs, there is a private master suite with
a large closet area and private bath. Three other bedrooms share a third full bath. The
bedroom with direct access to the back staircase has been converted to a cozy, 2nd floor,
family room/ study.
Outside, the 26,780 square foot lot (over ½ an acre) is surrounded by stonewalls and features
mature landscaping, such as impressive black walnut and umbrella pine trees. There is a 2-stall carriage
house, as well a long driveway which can accommodate several cars. There is a good-sized grass
lawn for playing or picnicking. The Apponagansett River, Padanaram's inner harbor, is visible at the end
of the street.
Note:This property is in
unusually good condition for an antique. The present owners were not expecting to move and have
been investing heavily in the property. The walk-out basement was just recently painted - floors,
walls and ceilings- and a large, walk-in, cedar closet was installed. The house was painted
in 2004 and was reroofed. The 4-zoned heat is forced hot water, baseboard and radiator, fired by a gas furnace.
Also, there is an alternative fuel source furnace that can heat the house with wood or
coal. There is a brand new, 3-unit, 3-zone, high velocity, central air-conditioning system, as well. The
carriage house was also rebuilt and reroofed within the last year. This house has been carefully
updated and refurbished.
Walk to Padanaram Village. Boat yard and water access at the end of the street. Two minutes to
town landings and five to ten minutes to Dartmouth town beaches.
