Fort Phoenix Area Antique

Enjoy Fairhaven's history every day when you own this restored, 1895 Victorian cottage, which was once part of the Henry Huttleston Rogers Estate*. Originally a guesthouse, it later became the gardener's residence. This home is situated on a lovely, .4-acre (16, 800 square foot), corner lot, just a few blocks from Fort Phoenix State Park**. A magnificent stone wall from the Roger's estate provides privacy and a grand entry to the property.

The home has new, double-pane, thermal windows throughout. There are lovely, mature plantings and trees surrounding this home, and there is a lawn sprinkler system. A 2-car garage hides an inviting, gunite pool and spacious, wrap-around deck.

A front porch adds charm and a welcoming feeling to the front entry. A beautiful foyer accents a grand staircase, which leads to the upstairs rooms. The living room (15' x 12') is highlighted by a lovely corner fireplace and pocket doors. The dining room (12' x 11') is cozy and inviting. This room opens into a center room (14' x 10') that could be a library, piano room, or extended area for dining. These areas all have wood floors. A large front-to-back family room (16' x 26') with Berber carpet and French doors leads to a second deck and finished basement room with a built-in bar.

At the rear of the home is a tidy kitchen that was redone 2 years ago with handmade cabinets, granite countertop, and ceramic tile flooring. To the right of the kitchen are doors leading to the deck off the family room and a storage closet. To the left of the kitchen is a handy half-bath and a butler's pantry leading larger, wrap-around deck and pool.

Upstairs find four bedrooms (12' x 10'), (12' x 12'), (10' x 14'), and (10' x 10') with mostly wood floors. The full bath has a ceramic floor. Off the hallway is a back staircase leading down to the kitchen

The original full basement has laundry hook-ups and a partial bath. The gas burner and water heater are rented. There is storage space and a cedar closet. A bulkhead leads outside.

Equally attractive as this home's character and provenance, is its desirable location. This home is in Fairhaven's historic Village center, within walking distance of the town's library, bicycle paths, town hall, eateries, beach, parks, and working fishing wharfs.

Note:

**Henry Huttleston Rodgers was Fairhaven's much-celebrated benefactor. Raised in Fairhaven, he became Executive Vice President of Standard Oil under John D. Rockefeller, and amassed a fortune of over 100 million dollars by the end of his life, making him one of the richest men in America. His generous spirit is responsible for Fairhaven's town hall, library, middle school, high school, Unitarian church and other buildings that help create the charming, authentic atmosphere of Fairhaven's historic village center. The property that is offered for sale was one of the original outbuildings of the Rogers Estate, which is no longer in existence. This estate was Henry Huttleston Roger's summer home, and boasted 85 rooms in total.

*Fort Phoenix State Park with its beach, tennis courts, playgrounds, and monuments, is the site of the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War.
