Waterfront Deckhouse on Taunton River
Located directly on the river, at end of a cul-de-sac of like-valued properties, this California-inspired deckhouse has lots of living space and many upgrades. Enter from the newly black-topped driveway with lovely stonewalls, through the large front foyer with blue-stone floor. Straight ahead is the glass-walled living room with field-stone hearth and views of the river. Looking upwards, one can see the large family room on the 2nd floor, also with glass walls and large hearth. To the left is the front- to- back kitchen with access to a stone patio, through French doors. The kitchen has granite counters, a stone fireplace, and recent appliances. The eat-in area is situated near the patio doors to take in the river view. Another set of French doors open to the step-down living room.
To the right of the entrance foyer is a hallway of closets, a staircase to the 2nd level and two, first floor bedrooms, each sharing the “Jack and Jill” bath. One of these bedrooms, presently used as an office, has a door leading to a mudroom and kennel area, perfect for dogs.
Upstairs, there is a landing half-way upstairs, with windows to take in the water view. Two enormous bedrooms, each with a cathedral ceiling, are to the left of the landing. These bedrooms share another “Jack and Jill” full bath, similar to the one on the first floor. Nearby, in the hallway, is a large wall-in cedar closet for extra storage. Continuing down the hallway, is the large family room, with glass walls overlooking the river and another field stone fireplace. This room has floor- to- ceiling, built-in bookcases on the west walls. Off the family room, is the front-to-back master suite. This space has a large walk in closet, new walk-out balconies to view the river, window seats, and a master bath with tiled floor, jetted-tub, separate shower, and large, vanity sink.
The lower level is accessed from the heated 2-car garage which also holds the large, commercial grade boiler, with 11 zones. The basement is partially finished, ideal for extra storage or a workshop. The back balconies (on the north and west) have recently been rebuilt. The house sits high on a hill, overlooking the water, which is navigable to the ocean. It is perfect for kayaking and is affected by tides, as to its depth. This home, one of a dozen in a cul-de-sac of fine homes, is quite private and hidden from everyday traffic, yet only minutes to Exit 10 on Route 24. It is a commuter’s paradise with easy access to Boston, Providence, Fall River, Newport or New Bedford.
